Position Summary

To provide support to the Aquatics Manager & Assistant Manager in the oversight of the operations of the aquatics department, specifically focusing on the learn to swim program youth and adult, along with personnel oversight and the maintenance of daily operations.

Essential Functions

Position Focus:

  • Support the Kroc Center Aquatics Team with oversight of programming, particularly swim lessons, camp lessons, and privates.
  • Support Aquatics Management in providing leadership over operations of the Aquatics programs and facilities.
  • Maintain EAP, policies, and operations reflective of current laws & aquatics industry standards.

Administration:

Oversee/Manage all administrative processes for Kroc Learn to Swim Program, including, but not limited to:

  • Supervise Kroc Learn to Swim Program Instructors. Be present on deck during lesson times.
  • Input & track class schedules, program registrations, and maintain correspondence with program participants.
  • Maintain and Log Course Records and Outstanding balances.
  • Supervise and evaluate all swim lesson personnel. Be prepared to provide teaching coverage in water.
  • Provide Aquatics Coordinator and Aquatics Manager consistent program, employee, and daily operations feedback upon observation.
  • Serve as Deck Lead and program-area supervisor when on shift for Aquatics: ensure functioning of all equipment & chemicals, staff supervision is maintained, and coverage is appropriate.
  • Enforce member safety guidelines, responding to customer inquiries and concerns, activating EMS as appropriate and reporting incidents as directed.
  • Perform all other duties assigned.
  • Attend Regular staff meetings as assigned. Provide support & assistance during Lifeguard In-services, as requested.

Seasonal Expectations:

  • Seasonal Duties as assigned. Can include but not limited to: Lifeguarding.
  • Adjustable schedule to fit program area/ department needs seasonally.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be outside in different weather conditions or exposed to Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum two years' seasonal experience as swim instructor, preferably with one year or some experience overseeing people or programs.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification desired or interest upon hire.
  • Must possess and maintain current certificates in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro)
  • Documented knowledge of principles and techniques of aquatic instruction and coaching, personnel and program supervision; and facility oversight.
  • Possess significant experience working at a large public pool facility.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
  • Must have ability to swim with proficiency and endurance.
  • Ability to prioritize and address projects, which may conflict, in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; ability to interact with co-workers, management, leadership, and the general public in a positive, productive manner.
  • Ability to analyze problems and reach acceptable and workable solutions through guidance from the Aquatics Coordinator & implement effectively.
  • Ability to present oneself in a professional manner; ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain poise while under pressure.
  • Must be willing to take consistent and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well in English required; bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Qualifications

Experience
Must possess and Maintain Current Certificates in American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or above; CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro) (required)
Documented Knowledge of Principles and Techniques of Aquatic Instruction and Coaching, Safety protocol (First Aid, CPR,); Personnel and Program Supervision; and Facility Oversight (required)
2 years: Minimum Seasonal Experience as Swim Instructor, preferably with experience overseeing people or programs. (required)
