DESCRIPTION

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 57 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is a collaborative partnership between the UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; the basic and public health research and outreach of San Diego State University (SDSU), and the basic and translational research of the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI). Primary responsibility is to oversee cancer-related data coding, management, curation and analysis. Specific responsibilities include 1) Coordinating and tracking data ingestion; 2) Obtaining data from various data resources - integrating and formulating/formatting large, complex datasets, and maintaining current databases; 3) Coding cancer-related grants, publications, and trainee data for specified, complex metrics; 4) Analyzing and summarizing data sets; and 5) Managing and curating data. Contribute cancer-related and academic expertise to database formulation, coding, and presentation. Will also be responsible for composing correspondence and data reports, preparing manuscripts and reports for funding agencies, uploading data to funding agencies, and assessing data integrity by running validation checks, and cleaning data as needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of research function. Thorough ability to perform research analysis duties. Extensive training in research methods and statistical expertise, graduate level training and experience is preferred.

  • Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming. Thorough skills associated with database design to perform research analysis duties. Knowledge of quantitative techniques (such as ANOVA and correlation), and qualitative analysis techniques, in order to examine complex datasets and create systems for coding that lead to appropriate statistical analysis.

  • Thorough skills in analysis and consultation. Experience with statistical analysis, database design and data security measures.

  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Experience in research data collection, curation and quality control as well as presentation.

  • Skills in project management.

  • Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and using large and complex databases. Experience handling large amounts of data.

  • Experience developing and maintaining record management systems. Experience and ability to accurately collect, record, transcribe and synthesize research data.

  • Knowledge of investigational protocols (various trial products, data gathering, phases and protocol designs).

  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic research institution. Experience reading and interpreting academic research protocols. Administrative experience in summarizing abstracts and/or other sections of peer-reviewed journal articles to understand the main concept, technique, population, and/or MCC catchment area priority.

  • Strong administrative experience using standard word processing and data management software programs, including Word and Excel, to develop and prepare reports. Computer proficiency, including working knowledge of various software programs (such as Adobe Acrobat, web browsers, RedCap and/or Flight Tracker, etc.) and internet browser applications. Experience in conducting searches on the internet. Ability and willingness to learn new software as needed.

  • Experience with academic journals and peer reviewed publications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree.

  • Theoretical knowledge of oncology research and/or biomedical sciences. Experience with cancer-related terminology and research.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Occasional evening or weekend work as necessitated by grant or other pressing deadlines.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
