This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health Sciences encompasses UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system, UC San Diego School of Medicine, one of the nation's top research-intensive medical schools, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southern California's first public school of pharmacy, and Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science. UC San Diego Health Sciences' mission is to deliver outstanding patient care through commitment to the community, groundbreaking research and inspired teaching.

The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine consists of the following units: Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions & Student Affairs, Diversity and Community Partnerships, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development, Simulation Education, Physician Assistant Education, Anatomical Services, Business Affairs and Educational Technology. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of approximately 560 medical students, 90 physician assistant students, 1000 residents and fellows as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD's School of Medicine, its' Medical Centers, and affiliates.

Under general supervision, the Incumbent serves as the Strategic Initiatives Manager for the Division of Medical Education. They provide high-level project management support for all aspects of Medical Education. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Education Administration and through guidance and direction from the Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives and the Medical Education Learning & Development Director, the incumbent will serve as a technical leader in business analysis and project management and be responsible for identifying and evaluating opportunities, planning and implementing solutions, change management and tracking and measuring success for short- and long-term organizational, business, and/or financial initiatives. Develops and advocates implementation of initiatives that optimize operations, bring consistency across units and yield potential time and effort savings.

The position will serve as internal consultant to support Medical Education's continuous evaluation and process improvement goals and manage special projects related to accreditation needs across the educational continuum. They will serve as part of the Medical Education Business Administration team and engage directly with stakeholders within Medical Education and external in the School of Medicine, Health Sciences, UC San Diego and the Office of the President.

The analysis, recommendations and implementation that will be performed are highly complex and involve problem-solving that frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure; requires a high degree and wide range of knowledge regarding business and organizational development as well as an extensive knowledge of UC San Diego and Health Sciences administrative organizations, departments, policies, procedures, processes and practices with emphasis on financial analysis, metrics and benchmarking.

Independently uses skills as an experienced organizational development and effectiveness professional with a full understanding of organizational consulting practices within medium to large, complex departments, divisions, schools and colleges to resolve a wide variety of organizational consulting issues and situations. Is proficient in identification and resolution of moderate to complex organizational issues. Works on strategic organizational consulting issues that are diverse in scope, where analysis of situations requires evaluation of various factors. Normally receives little instruction on planning, researching, and resolving organizational effectiveness issues, with general instructions and guidance provided on new assignments and / or more unique situations including strategic planning. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Has thorough knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized organizational interventions.

  • Demonstrates analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills.

  • Skilled in facilitation, consulting and relationship building.

  • Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained.

  • Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.

  • Ability to coach, facilitate, and influence people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of Health Sciences business, functions and missions.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
