Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job:
The Support Specialist reports directly to the Dean of Business and assists the Coffee Beanery Program Coordinator/Faculty in the support of the academic culinary programs and the operation of teaching laboratory spaces, catering, and Coffee Beanery retail operations. The primary role of this position is to provide support in the areas of purchasing, inventory, fiscal management, technology support, hiring and working with the work-study students, menu planning, and event catering.

Supervisory Responsibility:
In collaboration with the Dean, the Program Coordinator and Coffee Beanery manager, the Support Specialist will hire, schedule, and monitor work-study students.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry Arts, or Food Service Management with two years related industry experience or equivalent work experience.
  2. Current “Servsafe” certification through the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association.
  3. Two years of experience working in the culinary industry, hospitality industry or a closely related field.
  4. Experience operating various types of restaurant equipment.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of culinary and catering operations such as menu preparation, cost analysis, etc.
  6. Evidence of skills in computer technology including Microsoft applications in Word and Excel.
  7. High energy level, diplomatic/tactful, and passionate about the dimensions of this position.
  8. Demonstrated work history of providing high quality strong customer-oriented service.
  9. Good interpersonal skills, including listening, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people. Must have the ability to work as a team member, foster a cooperative work environment and maintain effective relationships.
  10. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills including the ability to anticipate needs and concerns of stakeholders.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Physical Requirements:
  1. Must be able to remain on his/her feet at least 75% of the time.
  2. Must be able to lift between 5 and 50 lbs. when purchasing, stocking, and inventorying materials and equipment.
  3. This individual needs to occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  4. This individual must be able to work in a kitchen and retail environment on a regular basis.

Work Schedule

Hours/Schedule:
This is a full-time position. Regular hours of this position are 40 hours per week, normally between Monday through Friday, varying between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the expectation of longer evening hours during semester start-up, shut down or special events. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the operation.
