Part-time Adjunct Faculty are needed to provide instruction for the Single Step and/or ACCESS program, part of the Center for Alternative and Supported Education (CASE). CASE is Maryland’s most extensive college-based resource for customized, student-centered, quality instruction in academic prep, life skills and workforce readiness, serving adults with learning differences, developmental disabilities, and cognitive challenges. CASE is part of the Continuing Education division of CCBC.

Instructors should have experience teaching students with intellectual, developmental, physical and social challenges. Most classes are weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm and some classes may require travel to an off-campus location.

Courses offered include reading, writing, math, life skills and personal enrichment (e.g. money management, independent living, art, music, civics, and stress management).
Responsibilities include: (1) preparing and teaching lessons for students with disabilities functioning at different levels in the classroom; (2) classroom management of student behaviors; (3) completing paperwork- a syllabus for each class, attendance rosters, registration forms, student evaluations, and any other required paperwork; (4) coordinating and collaborating with the staff of client agencies.

Campus Location(s): Dundalk, Catonsville & Randallstown

Pay rates for non-credit courses in Continuing Education are commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Academic and/or professional expertise teaching students with developmental or other disabilities.
  • Associate degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule.
 
Preferred: 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field; 
  • Two years of experience teaching or training in a special education classroom setting or inclusive environment; or the equivalent.
  • Computer Proficiency to include Microsoft and Google Office software and applications as well as experience integrating technology into curriculum.
Experience teaching reading, writing, math, essential work (soft) skills, communication/listening skills, anger management, stress management, art, music, cooking, and/or other life skills
