Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Student Support Services, develop on and off-campus placements, internships, cooperative work experience and volunteer work; provide students with employment information, job search preparation and referrals to employment sites; assure compliance with fair employment practices and federal work study guidelines.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: two (2) years of college with a major in business or related field
AND
Two (2) years experience in job development, placement or related area.

PREFERRED LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Valid California driver's license.

  • One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement.
  • If specifically referenced (i.e. degree 'or equivalent'), related experience that is above the minimum requirement may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States. Applicants must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and must submit a copy of the evaluation with the application.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Federal, State and District programs related to job placement. 
  • Fair employment practices and federal work study guidelines.
  • Policies, rules, regulations, and activities of federal and State student financial assistance programs.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, diplomacy and courtesy. 
  • Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws.

Ability to:
  • Assure compliance with fair employment practices and federal work study guidelines.
  • Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Develop and coordinate an effective job placement program.
  • Develop and conduct training workshops and presentations.

Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Develop, coordinate, recruit, mediate, terminate and perform other functions for federal and non-federal jobs according to fair employment practices and federal work study guidelines.
  2. Interview students to determine qualifications and eligibility for employment; provide advice and information to students regarding the preparation of an employment plan based on education, skills and interests. 
  3. Communicate with representatives of the District and the business community concerning career placement opportunities and activities with formalized follow-up procedures for job placement with students. 
  4. Complete and maintain required forms including job applications, W-4, I-9 and other forms and documentation as assigned.
  5. Maintain a variety of files, records and reports related to employment services and activities including ledgers of individual federal students' earnings; prepare and submit reports according to established timelines and procedures. 
  6. Determine program eligibility and prepare need analysis for work study applicants; process financial aid applications for students; determine and establish student budgets.
  7. Develop materials to advertise Student Employment Services activities to community and on­ campus sites.
  8. Provide employment verification.
  9. Develop and conduct general employment training and other workshops; follow-up on students and others as appropriate.
  10. Attend meetings, presentations and workshops as assigned; conduct workshops as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This is a non-telecommuting position.

All District employees must participate in the COVID-19 Vaccination Program, which requires them to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they receive an approved medical or religious exemption.

Candidates selected for employment with SWCCD must be fingerprinted by an electronic fingerprinting service (i.e. LiveScan) within 10 days of employment; provide clearance of tuberculosis (dated within the past 4 years and renewed every four years as a condition of continued employment) within 60 days of employment; provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Successful candidate selected may be assigned to any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, Crown Cove, National City, Otay Mesa, and/or San Ysidro).
